For those who are fond of creating new ringtones for their iPhone, there is an easy way around which will help them in making ringtones for free without using any bulky software. iPhone ringtones can be created easily just by using iTunes.
Below is the step-by-step guide to create ringtone for iPhone. This tutorial is performed on iTunes 10 but it’s also applicable to previous versions.
1. Open the song file in iTunes for which you want to make ringtone.
2. Right click on the song and select option “Get Info”.
3. Go to “Options” tab and enter “Start Time” and “Stop Time” in the text field.
Make sure that ”Start Time” and “Stop Time” difference is not more than 30 seconds, otherwise iTunes will not consider it as a ringtone.
4. Highlight the music file in iTunes. Go to “Advanced” option in iTunes Menu and select “Create AAC Version”.
You can also get this option by right clicking the music file.
A new song file of 30 second length will be created by iTunes.
5. Now right click the newly created file and select “Show in Windows Explorer” option. It will take you to the directory where the file is created.
6. As you can see from the above screenshot that the output file has “m4a” extension. Change it to “m4r”.
7. Double click on the file you renamed. iTunes will add the file to its Ringtones Library. Find the file there and sync it with iPhone using iTunes. Your new ringtone is now ready to rock.
